Job Overview

Pipefitter – Journey PositionLocation: Colorado City, TXType: Full Time

Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of process facilities and systems, including high‑pressure steam pipes and fittings, pumps, boilers, furnaces, steam heating auxiliary equipment, and steam operated equipment.
  • Use machine and hand tools common to the trade and prepare or work from sketches, plans, and specifications in accordance with trade practices.
  • Conduct routine welding and lead helpers by assigning suitable tasks.
  • Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping systems for steam, hot water, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems.
  • Interpret graphic symbols on piping drawings and install and repair piping systems using flanged, screwed, bell and spigot, compression, and soldered joints.
  • Execute lockout and tag procedures to secure and deactivate equipment, ensuring compliance with local procedures.
  • Inspect work sites to determine obstructions and ensure cuts for pipe do not compromise structural integrity.
  • Bend, cut, and thread pipes using appropriate tools (pipe bending tools, bending machine, saws, cutters, hammer, chisel, cutting torch, pipe cutting machine).
  • Dismantle equipment or devices to access and remove defective parts or components.
  • Enter safe vessels, towers, and columns for installation and maintenance of trays and cleaning.
  • Move materials, tools, and equipment manually or with power tools and perform area clean‑up and safety‑related duties.
  • Complete paperwork documenting repair and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with all crafts (electrician, welder, carpenter, painter) when conditions, schedule, or workload warrant or as directed by management.
  • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand tools and power tools.
Requirements
  • Four (4) years of experience involving layout, installation, and maintenance tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, depth perception, and the ability to see small details and beyond arm’s reach.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb 30‑foot ladders without rest, maintain balance on catwalks and narrow workspaces, stand for extended periods, reach above head while sitting or standing, reach below knees while standing, stoop or kneel, and work 50 or more hours each week.
  • Cognitive skills: environmental and safety policy awareness; ability to follow safety procedures; reading comprehension for work orders and technical manuals; basic mathematical calculations; oral communication; hand signal use; decision making; information assimilation.
  • Temperament: interpersonal skills, ability to work under time pressure, respond calmly to emergencies, make sound decisions, follow directions, take safety precautions, and work overtime when directed.
