Job summary

Lightera in Norcross, GA is seeking a Pipefitter to support our Maintenance Department in a high-purity fiber processing environment. The role covers installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrades of piping and related systems, including high-purity alloys and engineered polymers, with emphasis on safety and quality.

You will read and interpret piping diagrams, operate test equipment, and troubleshoot complex processes.

Qualifications

  • Two years of an accredited trades school with certification or equivalent knowledge
  • Emergency Response Technician Level certification as per 29 CFR 1910.120Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response
  • State of Georgia Emergency Medical Service Level certification
  • Pass required physical as per federal/state regulations
  • Ability to read P&ID diagrams and piping diagrams
  • Proficient in reading/writing English
  • Competency with machine control interfaces and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan work assignments with minimal supervision
  • Train and direct plant trades helpers and trainees
  • Collaborate with functional personnel to resolve problems and propose solutions
  • Wear PPE and store all PPE properly

Job description

We currently seek a Pipefitter to help support our Maintenance Department in our Norcross, GA location.

This position shall be responsible for the installation, maintenance, modifications, repair, upgrades, chemical unloading, operational inspections and tests on all types of manufacturing equipment associated with and to support complex processing of fiber optic processes and the operation and support of abatement equipment. This requires an intimate and working knowledge of process systems for fiber optic products and support. This shall involve but is not limited to varied piping systems including high purity alloy systems, engineered polymer systems, complex glass hardware and associated components. Competency in the proper installation of components, cutting, bending, threading, joining, hanging and covering involving alloy and engineered polymer pipes, flame cutting, welding steel items, flaring fittings, installation of valves, repair of glass systems and maintenance of the systems shall be demonstrated. Troubleshooting techniques and testing supporting operational, developmental or experimental designs, including chemical systems, gas delivery, abatement systems, glass, and high purity systems, and other associated piping systems shall be performed. This shall include utilization of PLC trending, test equipment such as borescopes, use of gas and leak detection devices.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Independently plan work assignments and perform duties with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Train and direct efforts of plant trades helpers, junior trades workers, trainees and trades workers assigned to assist in the performance of the work.
  • Collaborate with functional personnel in own and other organizations to resolve problems and recommend solutions based on trades knowledge.
  • Wearing protective equipment and properly storing all personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Key Qualifications
  • Two years of an accredited Trades School with certification of completion of all course work or equivalent knowledge and skill acquired by means of practical experience
  • Demonstrated ability with basic skills associated with this trade.
  • Qualified to the Emergency Response Technician Level as specified in federal regulations meeting state and federal guidelines 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
  • Training and certification to the Level in the Emergency Medical Service as defined by the State of Georgia.
  • Pass required physical as specified in federal and state regulations.
  • Machine control interface (touchscreens)
  • Problem-solving, Able troubleshoot machine problems
  • Reading, Writing English language
  • Able to understand and read process and instrumentation diagrams and piping diagrams.
  • Time management
  • Strong Computer skills (for looking up machine parts, machine schematic,)
  • Computer app use
