Job summary

Capstone Mechanical, LP. is looking for skilled Pipefitters at its Lumberton, NC facility. You will be engaged in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of commercial HVAC piping systems in industrial and commercial settings.

Based out of the Lumberton, NC facility, the Pipefitter will be engaged in fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining commercial HVAC piping systems. They work primarily in industrial, commercial settings, ensuring that pipes are properly fitted and connected to facilitate the flow of liquids, gases, and other substances. Refrigeration & hydronic piping experience is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Pipe Installation: Pipe fitters are responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, and fitting pipes according to engineering specifications and blueprints. They work with various types of pipes, such as steel, copper, plastic, and stainless steel, and use tools like saws, pipe cutters, and threaders to shape and prepare the pipes for installation.
  • Pipe Connection: Pipe fitters connect pipes together using welding, soldering, brazing, or mechanical fittings. They ensure that the connections are secure, leak‑free, and aligned properly. They may also install valves, gauges, and other control devices along the piping system.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Pipe fitters need to be able to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and other technical documents to understand the layout and configuration of the piping systems they are working on. This includes identifying the types and sizes of pipes, determining the location of fittings, and planning the pipe routing.
  • Pipe Repair and Maintenance: Pipe fitters diagnose and troubleshoot issues with piping systems, such as leaks, blockages, or faulty components. They may dismantle and replace damaged pipes, valves, or fittings, and perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection to ensure the system's optimal performance.
  • Safety Compliance: Pipe fitters adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. They are responsible for implementing proper ventilation, handling hazardous materials appropriately, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary. They also follow safety procedures during welding, cutting, and other high‑risk activities.
  • Collaboration: Pipe fitters often work as part of a team that includes plumbers, welders, and other construction professionals. They need to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth installation and operation of piping systems.
  • Documentation: Pipe fitters may be required to maintain records of work performed, including materials used, measurements, and any modifications made to the piping system. Accurate documentation is crucial for future reference, maintenance, and compliance purposes.
Qualifications
  • Refrigeration & hydronic piping experience preferred.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, lifts, and scaffolds, and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Capable of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity requirements are in excess of those for light work. Physically working foremen must be able to reach for, handle, and feel objects; lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.
  • 4 years vocational preparation acquired in school, work, military, institutional, or vocational environment. Minimum 5+ years related work experience.
  • Ability to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
  • Ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
