Job summary

PremiStar is seeking a skilled Pipefitter based in Lumberton, NC, to fabricate, install, and maintain commercial HVAC piping systems. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in plumbing and familiarity with refrigeration and hydronic systems.

Job description

Based out of the Lumberton, NC facility, the Pipefitter will be engaged in fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining commercial HVAC piping systems. They work primarily in industrial and commercial settings, ensuring pipes are properly fitted and connected to facilitate the flow of liquids, gases, and other substances. Refrigeration and hydronic piping experience is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Pipe Installation: Accurately measuring, cutting, and fitting pipes according to engineering specifications and blueprints. Work with various types of pipes (steel, copper, plastic, stainless steel) using tools such as saws, pipe cutters, and threaders.
  • Pipe Connection: Connect pipes using welding, soldering, brazing, or mechanical fittings. Ensure connections are secure, leak‑free, and properly aligned. Install valves, gauges, and other control devices along the piping system.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and other technical documents to understand the layout and configuration of the piping systems.
  • Pipe Repair and Maintenance: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues such as leaks, blockages, or faulty components; dismantle and replace damaged parts; perform routine maintenance tasks including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, implement proper ventilation, handle hazardous materials, and use appropriate personal protective equipment during high‑risk activities.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with plumbers, welders, and other construction professionals to ensure smooth installation and operation of piping systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of work performed, including materials used, measurements, and any modifications made to the piping system.
  • Accurate documentation is crucial for future reference, maintenance, and compliance purposes.
Qualifications
  • Refrigeration and hydronic piping experience preferred.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, lifts, and scaffolds, including standing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Capable of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, with the ability to lift objects up to 75 pounds and carry items up to 50 pounds safely.
  • Minimum 5+ years related work experience and 4 years of vocational preparation.
  • Ability to read safety rules, instructions for tool use, and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong written communication skills, including proper formatting, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
