Job summary

Turner Industries is seeking an experienced Pipefitter for a Kingsport, TN position. This role lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping systems for industrial processes.

Non-exempt; reports to the Foreman; duties follow standard procedures and site safety rules. Essential qualifications include a high school diploma, 1–4 years’ experience, and ability to read field and engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–4 years of pipefitting experience depending on level.
• A-class pipefitters require knowledge of field drawings and engineering drawings.
• Read tape measures and use framing squares for tasks.
• Readiness to connect flanged pipes with cross-pattern bolting.
• Know how to prepare pipe with power tools for cutting, welding, threading and bolting.
• A-class welders must make accurate weld connections.
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and policy compliance.
• Comply with safety requirements on site.

Responsibilities

• Plan and inspect safety gear to be used on site.
• Select materials and pipe sizes per specifications.
• Cut, thread and bend pipe; assemble metal/nonmetal fittings.
• Join pipes using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints.
• Test piping systems for leaks and safety.

We are seeking an experienced Pipefitter for a position in Kingsport, TN. The Pipefitter position lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial processing systems. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.

Essential Qualifications:

• High school or equivalent
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
• A-class Pipefitter requires basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches and engineering drawings
• Have basic knowledge of how to connect flanged pipe connections using a cross pattern bolting technique
• Be able to read and utilize a tape measure properly
• Be able to understand and utilize a framing square as it is applicable to pipefitting tasks
• Must know how to properly utilize power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading and bolting
• A-class pipefitters must be able to make accurate and precise weld connection fit ups
• Post offer drug / alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
• Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Functional Requirements:

Selects and inspects proper safety gear to be used while performing work tasks; selects size and type of pipe and related material according to job specifications; inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that creating holes for pipe penetration will not cause structural weakness; plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers; cuts, threads, and bends pipe; assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic; joins pipe by means of threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints; secures pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, supports and hangers; installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping; tests piping system for leaks; utilizes a variety of power tools including but not limited to, electric, pneumatic, and battery powered; perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
