The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Directorate to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Pipe and Building Trades supervisor. All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism. All safety policies and procedures must be followed.
Responsibilities:
Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports and related hydraulic, pneumatic and high pressure systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial production and processing systems
Selects type and size of pipe, and related equipment such as hangers and hydraulic cylinders to meet specification
Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness
Plans installation and repair of pipe using saws, pipe cutter, hammers and chisels, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machines
Threads pipe, using pipe threading machine
Assembles and installs variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes and fittings
Connects pipe using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints and hand tools
Increases pressure in piping system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks
Some plumbing work
U. S. citizenship required. Six years of experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program. Must be able to effectively communicate with others.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Test environment-May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities (90%).
Travel between various facilities and during test operations required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operations (10%)
Physical Requirements:
Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware and articles.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb various heights, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 lbs (100%).
Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%).
Corrected vision and hearing at all times (100%).
