Gulf Copper is seeking a skilled welder to support marine vessel repair and construction projects in an open-air industrial environment. You will read blueprints, set up welding equipment, and perform welds on steel plates and pipes using SMAW, FCAW, TIG, and other approved processes.
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, 6 months to 1 year of experience, and must pass ABS or ASME weld tests. Safety and PPE are emphasized in daily tasks at our Port Arthur facility.
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications of class – Class will be based upon judgment by quality control and/or production management in terms of the quality and productivity of the welds.
Plate Welder 2nd Class (PLW2) - Welder capable of welding SMAW or FCAW on plate/structural with ABS Q2+4G or ASME or AWS plate test (2G+3G+4G).
Plate Welder 1st Class (PLW1) - Welder capable of welding SMAW & FCAW on plate/structural with ABS Q2+4G or ASME or AWS plate test (2G+3G+4G).
Pipe Welder 2nd Class (PPW2) – Welder capable of welding SMAW or FCAW on plate/structural & SMAW or FCAW on pipe with ABS Q3 or AWS 6g pipe test.
Pipe Welder 1st Class (PPW1) – Welder capable of welding SMAW & FCAW and or GTAW on pipe. Must Pass ABS Q3 or ASME 6G or AWS 6G pipe test.
Combination Welder 1st Class - Pipe/Plate/Structural (PPLW)– Welder capable of process / structural pipe and plate welding using GTAW+FCAW and or GTAW+SMAW.
Combination Welder 2nd Class- Pipe/Plate/Structural (PPLW)– Welder capable of process / structural pipe and plate welding using GTAW+FCAW and or GTAW+SMAW.
