Job summary

HL Welding, Inc. seeks an experienced Pipe Welder for our Norfolk, Virginia location to perform high-quality welding on pipe, plating, fabricated components, and marine structural assemblies in a shipyard environment.

The Pipe Welder will use FCAW, SMAW, GTAW (TIG), and air carbon arc gouging to weld a variety of metals per blueprints and customer requirements. Strong 6G restricted-position experience is valued.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• 3–5 years journeyman level pipe welder experience.
• Weld various surfaces, pipes, plating and fabricated components using multiple processes.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
• Perform FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW/TIG welding.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, grinding, fitting and preheating.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking experienced Pipe Welders for our Norfolk, Virginia location to perform high-quality welding on pipe, plating, fabricated components, and marine structural assemblies in a shipyard environment.

The Pipe Welder will use multiple welding processes and equipment to weld a variety of metals and pipe configurations in accordance with blueprints, specifications, welding procedures, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong pipe-welding experience and be proficient in multiple welding positions and processes, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW (TIG), and air carbon arc gouging.

Required Qualifications

• U.S Citizenship required
• Minimum of 3-5 years of journeyman level pipe welder experience.
• Weld a variety of metal surfaces, pipe, plating, castings, forgings, and fabricated components using multiple welding processes and equipment.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
• Perform welding using FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW/TIG processes.
• Prepare welding surfaces by cleaning, grinding, fitting, and preheating as required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform 6G restricted-position pipe welding

Assessment

The following hands on assessment will be conducted:

• Carbon Steel - FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) Welding process in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G)
• 6G GTAW pipe butt test with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel Overhead and Vertical pipe socket tests with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel

All plates will be assessed using the x-ray method.

Unique/Additional Requirements

• Must be available and willing to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, overtime, and varying schedules as required.
• Must be comfortable and capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and in other challenging shipyard environments.
• Must be physically capable of frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, bending, and performing repetitive manual tasks.
• Must have sufficient visual and auditory ability to safely perform assigned duties, recognize warning signals, and identify hazards.
• Must maintain a high level of safety awareness and consistently follow company, shipyard, OSHA, and customer safety requirements.
• Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
