Job summary

Enbridge is hiring for a regular full-time position focused on installing natural gas infrastructure and performing field maintenance. You will operate in outdoor conditions, work with a crew, and follow safety procedures while meeting emergency response requirements.

Experience in utility construction and a valid CDL are preferred. Applicants must pass safety and environmental protocols; bilingual candidates are a plus.

What You Will Do:

• Install natural gas pipe in ditches
• Manually dig around various utilities
• Pressure test steel and plastic natural gas lines
• Participate in the repair of third-party damage to natural gas lines and various types of gas leaks
• Perform location of natural gas lines and facilities
• Complete pipe maintenance activities
• Install test charts
• Set up common Department of Transportation approved work sites
• Effectively flag traffic
• Safely drive a company vehicle
• Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.

Who You Are:

Required:

• Completed high school or GED.
• At least 6 - 12 months related construction and/or utility experience.
• Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
• Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (strongly preferred) OR able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of employment.
• Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Ability to don and be annually fit tested for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment.
• Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel, screwdriver, pipe wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, etc.).
• Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions are critical.
• Ability to work as a team member within a diverse team.
• Basic computer and internet navigation skills.
• Availability for overtime, as needed.
• Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends, when on-call.
• Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the assigned area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.
• Heavy lifting independently up to 80 lbs.

Preferred

• Good mechanical aptitude.
• Flagger experience and/or certification.
• Bilingual (Spanish) candidates.

Working Conditions:

• ICW Union position
• This position typically works within a crew structure.
• Work is performed primarily outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.).
• Heat/Cold – 75% - 100%
• Position requires travel throughout the service territory with safe parking in a wide variety of situations and driving in construction zones.
• Position may encounter agitated/upset customers.

Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
