Job summary

Zachry Underground & Utility Services, a division of Zachry Construction Corporation, seeks a Pipe Layer to assemble, connect, and construct pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. The role ensures trenches are prepared, pipes are aligned, joints sealed, and manholes installed, with pay based on experience.

You will work with PVC, metal, HDPE, and fiberglass pipes, follow safety rules, and collaborate with the pipe crew on site.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in water and sewer utility construction.
• Experience setting up to 48" sewer and installing fiberglass manholes.
• Experience with bypass pumping preferred.
• Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools.
• Physical ability to perform labor-related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Set up lasers with grades and verify percentage slopes on drawings.
• Configure pipe routes, align pipeline sections, and ensure proper spacing and alignment.
• Grade trenches or culverts and install manholes, valves, and fittings.
• Seal joints and ensure proper fit and alignment using grade rods or transit levels.
• Cover installed pipes with soil or other materials to secure them in place.
• Work with various materials including PVC, metal, HDPE, and fiberglass pipes.
• Operate hand and power tools as required for trenching and installation.
• Follow all required safety rules, policies, and guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
