Job summary

CK Contractors and Development LLC is seeking a Pipe Layer to assemble, connect and construct pipe systems for storm sanitation, sewers, drains and water mains. The role requires reading blueprints, attention to safety, ability to work in trenches and travel within a 70‑mile radius of Savannah.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of pipeline experience, OSHA Confined Space training is preferred, and willingness to work overtime.

Qualifications

  • Must have 2+ years of pipeline experience.
  • OSHA Confined Space training preferred.
  • Able to follow blueprints and supervisor instructions.
  • Knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains and water mains.

Responsibilities

  • Work in trench systems to install sanitary and storm sewer structures and pipe systems.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths and assist in aligning pipes for welding or sealing.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials; grade trench bases and level using tamping tools.
  • Maintain safety standards and coordinate with other trades.
  • Keep equipment clean and perform daily maintenance and pre/post checks.
  • Be flexible to assist with other positions as needed.
  • Attend work on schedule and overtime as required.

Job sites are located within a 70 mile radius of the greater Savannah area.

Job Summary:

The Pipe Layer is a non-exempt position responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains and pipelines. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement, glue or plastic welding.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work in trench systems to install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths and assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction and position them for welding or sealing.
  • Possess knowledge of proper grading for correct flow and drainage; Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials; Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.
  • Maintain familiarity with and understanding of utilities workflow of duties and team coordination with other trades.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Responsible for pre and post checks of equipment, daily maintenance and keeping the equipment clean and ready for daily operation.
  • Keep records of material or equipment usage or problems encountered.
  • Must have the initiative, ability, and willingness to perform and assist with other job positions for job completion as requested.
  • Maintain attendance at work, including presence at work during regular work hours or other schedules as may be assigned. Acceptance of overtime assignments will also be required based on operational needs.
Experience & Requirements
  • The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of pipeline experience.
  • OSHA Confined Space training preferred.
  • Must be able to follow building plans or blueprints and instructions from supervisors, lay out the job and work efficiently with the materials and tools of the trade.
  • Knowledge of construction and pipe fitting techniques, along with knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains and water mains.
  • Experience with machine-operated and hand trenching tools.
  • Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards.
  • Must be able to work with other to achieve company results; Have the ability to think critically to analyze information and make sound decisions
  • Effective communication with other operators, truck drivers and general laborers is critical, both verbally and nonverbally; this includes the ability to listen to the ideas of others.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be at work when scheduled and have the ability to travel.Periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime hours are expected.
  • Must be able to adapt and adjust to changing situations and priorities with a positive attitude.
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention is necessary to safely and effectively complete work tasks.
Working Conditions
  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs.; bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist throughout the day.In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job.This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces, as well as working in confined areas.
  • Willingness to work in trenches and manholes.
  • This job requires the ability to perform essential tasks in less than favorable conditions.These may include but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, sand, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.

The normal work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 5:30pm, with some required overtime on Saturday.

Pay range is based on experience.

Job sites are located within a 70 mile radius of the greater Savannah area.
