Job summary

Spirax Sarco Engineering is seeking a Pipe Fitter to support ESMU fabrication operations. You will prepare pipe for fabrication, assist welders, and help with layout, assembly, and bolting activities in a busy shop environment.

The role requires reading drawings, using measuring tools, and maintaining safety and 5S/6S standards. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and prior fabrication experience.

Qualifications

  • Read and interpret basic drawings and layouts.
  • Follow work instructions and use measuring tools accurately.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare pipe for fabrication and welding, including cutting, grinding, cleaning, beveling, and basic fit-up assistance.
  • Thread pipe using hand or machine methods (½” to 2”).
  • Assist pipe fitters with layout, assembly, and bolting activities.
  • Dismantle and remove existing pipe or assemblies as required.
  • Support fabrication of pipe spools, supports, and sub-assemblies.
  • Assist with hydrostatic testing setup and teardown.
  • Transport materials and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Comply with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Pipe Fitter

Position Summary

The Pipe Fitter supports ESMU fabrication operations by performing pipe preparation, material handling, and general production support activities. This role is designed to keep skilled welders and pipe fitters focused on high-value fabrication and welding work by absorbing prep, staging, and auxiliary tasks that routinely interrupt production flow.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Pipe Preparation & Fabrication Support
  • Prepare pipe for fabrication and welding, including cutting, grinding, cleaning, beveling, and basic fit-up assistance
  • Thread pipe using hand or machine methods (½” to 2”)
  • Assist other pipe fitters with layout, assembly, and bolting activities
  • Dismantle and remove existing pipe or assemblies as required
  • Support fabrication of pipe spools, supports, and sub-assemblies
Production & Shop Support
  • Assist with hydrostatic testing activities, including setup and teardown
  • Assist with paint prep, cleaning, masking, and finishing support
  • Transport materials and assemblies throughout the facility using appropriate material-handling equipment
  • Perform general shop support tasks to reduce production interruptions and improve workflow efficiency
Safety, Quality & Housekeeping
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements
  • Maintain 5S / 6S standards in assigned work areas
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow safe work practices
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs
Education, Experience & Skills
  • High school diplomaor a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in fabrication, pipe work, construction, or industrial manufacturing preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and layout
  • Ability to read measuring tools and follow work instructions accurately
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic shop equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and move materials throughout the work shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
  • Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, equipment, and industrial conditions
