Job summary

David H. Martin Excavating Inc. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator for on-site construction and utility projects. Responsibilities include operating excavators and other heavy machinery to backfill trenches, grade materials, and support pipe crews.

Job description

DHM’s Heavy Equipment Operators operate a variety of construction/excavation equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, front end loaders, skid steer loaders, track hoes, drills, graders, dozers, and heavy trucks that are used daily in construction/excavation. The Operator is responsible for working with power construction equipment to move materials, earth, and heavy objects at our construction sites. The Operator clears and grades land to prepare it for utilities, asphalt, concrete, buildings, bridges, roads, etc. This is considered a Safety Sensitive position.

Duties Include:

• Operate excavators, and other heavy equipment to safely and efficiently backfill pipe trenches
• Place, compact, and grade backfill materials according to project specifications
• Work closely with pipe crews, laborers, and supervisors to maintain productivity and jobsite safety
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns
• Assist with site cleanup, final grading, and other utility construction duties as needed
• Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience required, preferably on a utility or pipe crew
• Strong ability to operate equipment around open trenches, live utilities and active work crews
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
• Dependable, safety-minded, and team-oriented attitude
• Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
