About Pioneering Medicines

Pioneering Medicines is dedicated to conceiving and developing a broad portfolio of life-changing treatments by leveraging Flagship’s bioplatforms and innovation process. By harnessing Flagship’s first-in-category platforms, the team creates and advances novel medicines, partnering within Flagship’s ecosystem to expand their portfolios into new areas, ultimately delivering benefits to more patients, sooner. Currently, with 11 ongoing programs and plans for more than 15 in 2024, Pioneering Medicines collaborates with external partners such as Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Position Summary

As the Associate Director/Director, Business Development, Transactions, you will lead strategic transactions for Pioneering Medicines and other Flagship companies. This role requires influence across the ecosystem, strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills, scientific acumen, strategic thinking, and a collaborative approach. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead structuring, negotiation, and completion of in-licensing, out-licensing, and asset sale transactions. Support due diligence and financial analysis, and present findings to leadership and investors.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Partnering team and cross-functional leaders to execute business development strategies.
  • Build credibility through understanding of biotech and pharma deal landscapes.
  • Prepare opportunity assessments, including scientific rationale, partnership frameworks, financials, and competitive analyses.
  • Foster collaboration across R&D, operations, finance, and legal teams.
  • Engage with potential partners, establishing relationships and communicating Flagship’s vision.
  • Refine partnership operations, tracking, and execution practices.
  • Coordinate internal Partnering meetings, setting agendas, tracking actions, and following up.
  • Develop and monitor objectives, and participate in health checks for key partners.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in life sciences, business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with contracts and negotiations.
  • 5+ years in business development or alliance management within pharma or biotech.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex relationships and interface with external partners.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and work independently in a dynamic environment.
