JOB DESCRIPTION
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating/driving heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as required by law. This position may also be involved in miscellaneous physical labor tasks depending on the job.
The Heavy Equipment Operator must deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The Heavy Equipment Operator must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner and report any complaints to your immediate supervisor.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
Position can be a physically strenuous and demanding job. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, manual dexterity for handling large machines and small components/tools; ability to lift heavy objects; visual acuity for inspection and repair of systems and equipment. Must be able to work in all weather and be prepared to work in both extreme heat and cold. Able to climb and work from a ladder. Position involves on-site activity in construction situations, including walking and navigating through job sites and unusual conditions, moving and positioning loads up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders and moving on temporary structures. Necessary precautions must be taken to wear appropriate PPE. Ground travel will be required.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Travel is expected and mandatory. Travel to other Regions/Districts and states may be required as projects are determined and assigned.
