Job Description

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for an Elementary School Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher (grades K-6). This position is for 6 hours per day, 182 days per year. APPLICANTS SHOULD APPLY ON WSD.TEDK12.COM.

Under the direction of the building principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior plans (BIPs) with fidelity as outlined by the IEP team, which includes students, parents, teachers, and school administration.
  2. Implement data collection systems, accurately collect and summarize data.
  3. Monitor, redirect, and modify student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance, administering intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students.
  4. Teach subject matter utilizing the course of study adopted by the school district and the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
  5. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
  6. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  7. Utilize Least Restrictive Behavior Interventions (LRBI) to support skill development in students.
  8. Engage students in learning through use of content activities and assignments, student groupings, a wide variety of instructional materials, and the structure and pacing of the lessons.
  9. Provide specific and timely feedback to students.
  10. Evaluate student's academic and personal growth, keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  11. Model and train program staff on the implementation of specific programs and procedures to address student goals.
  12. Collaborate with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively.
  13. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  14. Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
  15. Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds.
  16. Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure students' progress.
  17. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress as well as attendance and behavior; interpret school programs.
  18. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals for the benefit of student learning.
  19. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and parents.
  20. Participate in school and district trainings.
  21. Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
  22. Possess problem-solving skills and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  23. Manage student files to maintain compliance based on district, USBE, and IDEA guidelines and regulations.
  24. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  25. Conform to district policies including attendance, absences, and evaluations.
  26. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or district office administration.
