Carter Machinery Co. Inc. in Richmond, VA is seeking a Pilot to join our flight operations team.

This role requires leadership as Pilot in Command on CL-30 missions, delivering safe, high‑quality service to passengers while upholding Carter values on every trip. The successful candidate will bring advanced certifications, extensive flight hours, and strong CRM skills to plan flights, conduct inspections, and coordinate with regulators.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years private/transport flight experience.
• Minimum 2,000 hours total time; minimum 1,000 multi-engine turbine hours.
• FAA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP).
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Challenger 300/350 type rating; 500+ hours CL-30 experience.
• Prior corporate or charter experience preferred.
• International operations experience preferred.
• Passport and travel eligibility to EU, Canada, Caribbean.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Pilot in Command on CL-30 missions with safety and professionalism.
• Operate aircraft transporting passengers as scheduled.
• Plan and execute flights in compliance with Part 91 and SOPs.
• Lead preflight planning including performance, weight & balance, weather/NOTAMs and fuel strategy.
• Perform pre- and post-flight inspections of engines, hydraulics and systems.
• Mentor crew, maintain a calm, client-focused cockpit culture.
• Deliver white-glove service and uphold Carter values on every trip.
• Coordinate with FAA, NTSB, DOT and other agencies.
• Submit required paperwork timely; support continuous improvement.
• Relocate within base radius if required.

Starting Compensation Range:

the compensation package is negotiable and upward of $200,000 annually.

What You Will Do

• Serve as Pilot in Command onCL-30 missions, ensuring highest standards of safety and professionalism
• Operate aircraft transporting people as scheduled
• Plan and execute flights in compliance with Part 91, company standard operations procedures, and all applicable regulations
• Lead and conduct all preflight planning, including performance, W&B, weather/NOTAMS, and fuel strategy in a web-based and/or mobile device-based environment
• Perform pre- and post-flight aircraft inspections, including engines, hydraulics, and other systems
• Lead effective CRM, mentor crew members, and maintain a calm, client-focused cockpit culture
• Deliver white-glove service to all passengers while representing Carter values on every trip
• Interact with outside regulatory bodies (FAA, NTSB, DOT) and contract agencies on matters concerning flight operations
• Keep abreast of new practices, materials, products and other subjects related to operation of flight department
• Submit required paperwork and reports in a timely and accurate fashion
• Work in coordination with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals and objectives
• Perform other related duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum five years private/transport flight experience
• Minimum 2,000 hours total time/minimum 1,000 multi-engine turbine hours
• FAA Airline Transport Pilot License
• Bachelor’s degree
• Challenger 300/350 (CL-30) type rating
• Minimum 500 hours Challenger 300/350 experience
• Prior Corporate or Charter experience, preferred
• International Operations experience, preferred
• Experience operating Gulfstream 600, Citation Encore, preferred
• Licensure required: Written ATP(FAA), First-Class Medical, FCC Restricted Radio Operator’s Permit
• 20/20 vision (or correctable to 2020)
• FAA Type Rating(s) for company aircraft
• Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation regulations and safety procedures
• Thorough pre- and post-flight airplane inspections
• Proficient knowledge with respect to flight operations manuals, regulations, and standards
• Reside or be willing to relocate to within one hour of/two-hour call-out radius of the assigned home base
• Possess a current passport and unrestricted ability to travel to the EU, Canada, and the Caribbean
• Must be able to pass a FAA/DOT pre-employment drug screen and comply with random drug/alcohol testing
• Willingness to authorize release of and successfully pass an FAA Pilot Records Database (PRD) review with Chief Pilot
• Valid U.S. driver’s license
• Excellent driving record
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
