Job summary

PJ Dick-Trumbull-The Lindy Group in Arlington, VA is seeking skilled Pile Drivers for the Long Bridge South project. You will operate pile driving heads and rigs to install pilings for foundations, following blueprints and safety rules.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, completion of an apprenticeship or related experience, strong math and teamwork, and a commitment to safety on-site. Per diem and lodging may be negotiated.

Responsibilities

• Operate pile driving heads, power hammers, and rigs to drive pilings.
• Use cranes and hoists to position pile driving leads.
• Oil and service pile driving rigs and parts as needed.
• Move materials and prepare sites for piling operations.
• Read sketches/blueprints to place pilings correctly.
• Climb and work on equipment at various heights safely.
• Follow all safety rules and project procedures.
• Dig trenches and manage heavy construction materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Typical Duties:

• Operate pile driving heads/power hammers and rigs (skid, barge, crawler tread, or locomotive crane-mounted) to drive pilings for retaining walls, bulkheads, and structure foundations
• Operate cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment to lower pile driving leads into place
• Oil and service pile driving rigs and parts
• Move construction materials, earth, and heavy material; clear land for pile driving operations
• Build structures per sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions; judge distance and positioning for piling leads accurately
• Erect, climb, and work on equipment above or below ground level, from a few feet up to 100 feet
• Comply with all safety codes and programs
• Dig trenches and maneuver heavy construction materials
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or project needs

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED; completion of apprenticeship program or related experience/training
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide in units of measure)
• Ability to read and follow simple instructions, correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew
• Common sense and ability to follow written/oral instructions
• Knowledge of and adherence to company safety policy

Physical Demands:

Performing physical activities requiring considerable use of the arms, legs, and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Job requires wearing common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats; Considerable time spent using hands and feet, head and neck to properly and safely operate a pile driving rig and hammer. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe work taking place in all directions, reach, talk, hear and see. Vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus properly. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions:

Regularly work as a member of a team to accomplish heavy construction tasks. This job is exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold and heat, wet and/or humid conditions; and exposed to moving mechanical parts; heights or underground spaces; fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, and loud noises.
