Job summary

Job Description: Pick-up Broom/Sweeper Operator
Position Summary

The Pick-up Broom/Sweeper Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining street sweeping and cleaning equipment to ensure proper cleaning of streets, parking lots, construction sites, and similar areas. The Operator works as part of a team to maintain cleanliness and safety in public and private environments, following all safety guidelines and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Peterbuilt Schwarze M6 pick-up broom/sweeper and other equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs daily basic maintenance, labor duties and reports equipment issues or malfunctions.
  • Clean debris and dust from streets, parking lots, and construction sites as per assigned routes or instructions.
  • Safely load, transport, and unload sweeping equipment as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients regarding schedules, issues, or job requirements.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of tasks performed and equipment used.
  • Comply with all company, local, and federal DOT safety regulations and traffic laws.
  • Assist with other duties as required, such as equipment repairs or additional sweeper maintenance and cleaning tasks.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and other machinery, including pick-up brooms and sweepers.
  • Good understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations applicable to equipment operation.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to conduct equipment pre‑and post‑trip inspections and operating checks.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to cleanliness standards.
  • Effective communication skills and team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to follow schedules and instructions precisely.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license; clean driving record. Prefer candidates with a Class A CDL for other assignments.
  • Experience operating sweepers, pick‑up brooms, or similar heavy equipment.
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
  • Previous experience in municipal, construction, or environmental services industries.
  • Familiarity with routine maintenance of sweeping equipment.
  • Additional certifications in heavy equipment operation or safety training.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed outdoors and may require overtime, nights or weekend shifts.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, and outdoor weather conditions is routine.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy.
