Description

Responsible for operating, monitoring, and adjusting picking room equipment to ensure efficient feather removal, product quality, and minimal bird damage while maintaining safety and compliance in the RKP (receiving, killing, picking) department.

The role supports production in meeting quality standards by setting up and continuously validating picking equipment, including finger plates, picker height, separation, and pitch, to ensure proper operation. It involves consistently monitoring picking banks, rail water flow, and temperature levels to maintain process efficiency, as well as setting and verifying scalder and flash scalder temperatures within optimal ranges. The position requires inspecting birds to ensure compliance with feather removal, cuticle standards, and acceptable damage levels, while also identifying and troubleshooting equipment performance issues and product defects. Adjustments must be made as needed to pickers, scalder temperatures, and overall process conditions to maintain quality output. The role includes communicating equipment concerns and coordinating repairs with the Supervisor, Superintendent, and maintenance team, maintaining safe work areas, and completing all required documentation procedures. Additionally, the position requires the use of basic computer skills to log checks into the system and to complete required written and electronic reports.

Participates as a member of the Team . Supports team goals, communicates effectively, and collaborates with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient operations while meeting customer requirements.

Safety and Compliance Adheres to all safety programs, for example: Lockout/Tagout, PPE requirements, hazard communication, and emergency procedures. Reports unsafe conditions immediately.

Physical Activities: Frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, bending, & twisting of the neck; squatting; climbing stairs and ladders; kneeling; crawling; reaching above, at, above, and below shoulder level; repetitive motion of shoulders, arms, and hands. Constant walking; grasping; use of vision & hearing; and manual adjustments for extended periods. Work is performed in noisy, wet, hot (up to 100 degrees), and humid conditions, with slip, trip, and fall hazards.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Includes hearing protection, head protection, safety glasses, impact resistant gloves, smock, sleeves, hair net and beard net .
