Job summary

Ensemble Schools is seeking a fun, experienced, and professional piano instructor to teach part-time at Music House School of Music in Prairie Village, KS. The position is in-person and favors candidates who can teach at multiple locations, including Lenexa and Overland Park.

Classes are mainly Tuesday evenings from 3–9pm, with group teaching experience a plus. Pay ranges from $24 to $28 per hour, and health benefits and a 401(k) with employer match are available after 30 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in music education or performance preferred.
• At least 1 year of teaching experience; group teaching experience a plus.
• Performance experience in both solo and ensemble settings.
• Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, listening).
• Organized, detail-oriented and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient using technology including computers, mobile devices, browsers, and various online applications.
• Appreciation for punctuality, reliable transportation, and ability to pass a routine background check.

Responsibilities

• Teach private piano lessons and build on student strengths and interests.
• Lead group classes using the Music House curriculum.
• Attend monthly faculty meetings.
• Assist with three community events per year (recitals, jam sessions, faculty concerts).
• Communicate with parents, fellow faculty, and administrative staff.
• Track student attendance and maintain teaching notes.
• Prepare and follow lesson plans and teaching guides.
• Sign students up for performances and prepare them for group or solo shows.

About the Position

Ensemble Schools is seeking a fun, experienced, and professional piano instructor to teach part-time at Music House School of Music, which has three locations in Prairie Village, Overland Park and Lenexa, KS. Teachers are not required to teach at all three locations, but preference will be given to those who can teach at multiple. We are looking for teachers who will instruct in person. Teachers are primarily needed for Tuesday nights between 3-9pm. Ability to instruct Group Classes is highly beneficial.

General teacher duties include:

• Teaching private lessons in a way that builds on the strengths and interests of the student.
• Leading group classes through the Music House curriculum.
• Attending monthly faculty meetings.
• Assisting with three community events per year (recitals, jam sessions, faculty concerts).
• Communicating and interacting with parents, fellow teaching faculty, and administrative staff.
• Tracking student attendance and maintaining detailed teaching notes.
• Signing students up for and preparing them for group and individual performances.
• Creating and/or following lesson plans and teaching guides.

Instructor pay is commensurate with experience and will be in the range of $24-$28/hour. Health benefits options and a 401K with employer match are available for all part- and full-time employees at Ensemble after 30 days of employment.

This posting is for Music House School of Music, our Prairie Village, KS location. Music House teachers are members of a team of over 25 teachers and 10 administrators who work collectively toward the development of a strong organization. With three locations and around 700 weekly students, this approach has served us well. However, our team-focused communal environment can seem very different for anyone with prior experience independently teaching private lessons.
