Job Description
Forsyth R-III School District is hiring a piano accompanist for the 2026-2027 school year. The accompanist will support the music department by enhancing students' (grades 5-12) vocal and instrumental performances.
Responsibilities
- Prepare repertoire provided by music directors
- Record practice tracks as needed to aid in rehearsals that do not include the accompanist on site
- Play piano during scheduled rehearsals, typically 2-3 rehearsals prior to each performance event (schedule will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the beginning of each semester)
- Accompany said solos/ensembles during performance events
- Opportunity for student coaching during rehearsals for solo/small ensemble preparation
- Communicate with K-6 Music Teacher, HS Vocal Teacher, and HS Band Teacher regarding schedule and repertoire
Candidate Requirements
- Advanced piano performance and strong sight-reading capability
- High school diploma, plus private piano studio training or college-level music theory coursework preferred
- Prior experience accompanying youth, school, or community choirs preferred
- Collaborative mindset, patience with students, and clear communication skills
- Some travel required (Festivals, MSHSAA Competitions, etc)
Proposed Hours (broken down)
- Record rehearsal tracks - approx. 10 hrs
- 2-3 rehearsals prior to Christmas Concerts early December - approx. 8 hrs
- Christmas Concert(s) - approx. 2 hrs
- 2-3 rehearsals with solos/ensembles beginning of March (MSHSAA solo/ens) - approx. 10 hrs
- MSHSAA Solo/Ens early/mid-March - approx. 10 hrs
- 2-3 rehearsals with choirs, solos/ensembles beginning of April (Music Festival) - approx. 10 hrs
- 1-2 rehearsals with choirs prior to MSHSAA State/Spring Concert late April/early May - approx. 8-10 hrs
- MSHSAA State solo/ens late Apr/early May - approx. 10 hrs
- Spring Concert(s) early May - approx. 2 hrs
Position Type: Part-Time
Salary: $1,860 Stipend
