Job description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and adaptable individual to join the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities team, based in Inverness.

If you would like to work with adults with a learning disability, and develop skills in mental health, can demonstrate excellent communication skills and are enthusiastic about patient centred care, we would like to hear from you.

We provide physiotherapy services to the acute and rehabilitation wards in New Craig’s Psychiatric Hospital and Anoch Mor. We also work collaboratively with the multi-professional team to meet the health needs of people with a learning disability throughout the region of NHS Highland (not including Argyll and Bute) in a range of community and acute settings.

As a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner you will be delegated appropriate patients by a qualified physiotherapist. For your caseload and when relevant you will be expected to work independently, assessing the patient's needs, modifying treatment plans, and delivering this care without supervision. This will include progressing patients, reassessing and discharging within scope of practice. Full engagement with the multidisciplinary teams is another key part of this position. You will also need to work together with qualified physiotherapists to provide care to more complex individuals.

You will also support the physiotherapy team through a range of non-clinical duties, from equipment ordering, referring patients to appropriate teams and services, to assisting with statistical information collation for patient activity audit purposes.

Our Band 4 Assistant Practitioners are a valued and vital part of our team, and we welcome a positive proactive approach with fresh ideas to enhance our client centred service.

The range of conditions encountered and requirement for excellence in clinical reasoning and team working in this post will allow the successful candidate to develop extensive and in-depth experience as a band 4 physiotherapy assistant practitioner. Staff development is supported through joint working, CPD opportunities, appraisal and supervision.

Previous experience working as Band 3 support worker or Band 4 assistant practitioner, and a UK driving licence are desirable.
