Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physiology or an MD/DO or equivalent medical degree
• Experience teaching human physiology, especially clinically-integrated physiology for medical students
• Evidence of scholarship in the field

Responsibilities

• Participate in the collaborative development and delivery of the pre-clerkship medical school curriculum (years 1-2), with an emphasis on curricular elements related to the teaching and assessment of human physiology and pathophysiology
• Participate in course administration and instruction for the pre-clerkship phase of the medical school curriculum
• Collaborate with faculty members in other disciplines to develop and deliver an integrated curriculum that blends basic science, clinical science, and health systems science
• Employ a variety of teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning
• Provide formative and summative assessment of medical student performance
• Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to medical students
• Work closely with course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the educational program goals and objectives established by the School of Medicine
• Engage in a advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
• Provide clinical service (when applicable) to the extent necessary to adequately support the teaching programs of the department
• Contribute to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
• Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
• Adhere to institutional policies and procedures

Assistant Professor or Higher-Physiology

The Department of Medical Education at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso – Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is seeking qualified applicants for a full‑time open rank faculty position in physiology. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary team of medical educators to develop and deliver a highly integrated clinical presentation‑based medical curriculum. Our faculty also engage in research and service activities based on individual interests, credentials and experience.

The Department of Medical Education houses a number of state‑of‑the‑art educational spaces, including a 5,000 square‑foot gross anatomy lab and 2,700 square‑foot molecular and cell biology lab for teaching and faculty‑mentored student research projects. Access to additional instrumentation and collaborative research expertise is granted through four centers of research emphasis (Cancer, Diabetes & Metabolism, Infectious Diseases, and Neuroscience) located in the adjacent Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physiology or a closely related discipline, or M.D./D.O. or equivalent medical degree
• Expertise/experience in teaching human physiology, especially clinically-integrated physiology for medical students
• Evidence of scholarship in the field of expertise
• Texas Medical License or eligibility for Texas Medical License for physician candidates; Board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties for physician candidates

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing ated medical curriculum
• Experience with active learning methods, such as interactive large- and small-group formats, team-based learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning
• Experience with curriculum management software systems
• Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to medical education
• Experience in medical education scholarship
• Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding
• Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher
