Job Title: Physics Teacher/Robotics Mentor

Position Overview:
Vanguard College Preparatory School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated High School Physics Teacher and Robotics Mentor to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics and science education, a passion for inspiring students, and the ability to create an engaging and rigorous learning environment. The teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality lessons aligned with state science standards, and oversee the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics program. Key Responsibilities:

Physics Teacher

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and curriculum requirements.
  • Teach fundamental and advanced physics concepts, including mechanics, electricity, magnetism, thermodynamics, and modern physics.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations to reinforce theoretical concepts.
  • Integrate technology and real-world applications to enhance student learning.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, projects, tests, and other assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents regarding progress.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and STEM initiatives.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, professional development, and faculty meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation.

FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Program:

  • Serve as the lead mentor/coach for the school's FTC robotics team.
  • Guide students in designing, building, and programming robots for competition.
  • Coordinate team meetings, practice sessions, and competition participation.
  • Foster teamwork, innovation, and leadership within the robotics program.
  • Secure funding and sponsorships to support the robotics program, as needed.
  • Engage with the broader robotics and STEM community to enhance learning opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching high school physics preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of physics concepts and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and engage students at various academic levels.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Experience with robotics platforms such as FTC, VEX, or FRC is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Passion for STEM education and technology innovation.
