Job summary

Georgia College & State University seeks a Lecturer in Physics to teach undergraduate physics sequences and labs, with possible astronomy instruction. The role is non-tenure track and based in the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, for a 10-month academic year.

The successful candidate coordinates lab activities, edits lab manuals, and supports the core curriculum while maintaining lab materials and equipment for Physics and Astronomy labs.

Qualifications

• PhD in a closely related field. Must have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Physics.
• Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S.3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)).
• Successful candidate will have some teaching experience.
• Teaching experience in Physics and Astronomy at the college level.
• Ability to maintain internally developed Physics and Astronomy lab materials and resources.
• Well versed in best practices in assessing student learning.
• Instructor of record for college level classes in the related discipline.
• Record of scholarly activity, publications, or creative works.

Responsibilities

• Full-time instructional load teaching (15 contact hours per week) in areas of expertise within the academic discipline.
• Regular course meetings and instruction
• Ability to maintain internally developed Physics and Astronomy lab materials and resources.
• Maintenance and weekly set up of equipment for either the Astronomy or Physics laboratories.
• Other teaching responsibilities
• Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
• Faculty also contribute to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses.
• Faculty - Service to Institution: All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors.
• Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.
• Faculty - Professional Development: Faculty are expected to stay current in their field.
