Job summary

Qualifications

  • PhD holder or current PhD student in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • Experience with physics-based modeling and simulation of laser powder bed fusion or related processes.
  • Strong MATLAB/Python skills and ability to develop computational workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and calibrate physics-based thermal, melt-pool, and thermomechanical models for LPBF.
  • Optimize single- and dual-laser scan strategies and laser power schedules for thermal history and microstructure control.
  • Create and document computational workflows for simulation, optimization, and data analysis.
  • Compare model predictions with in-situ measurements and experimental data for validation.
  • Support experiments at NIST AMMT/LPDT and related facilities, including occasional external synchrotron work.
  • Perform post-processing material characterization using microscopy and X-ray techniques.
  • Present findings at internal meetings and coordinate with partners.
