Job summary

UVU invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Physics. The position emphasizes teaching a 12-credit load per semester across introductory and upper-division courses, with an expectation to foster student engagement and success.

The successful candidate will develop and sustain an undergraduate research program, mentor students, present at conferences, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and seek internal or external funding. Service to the department and university is also expected.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or closely related field required at time of appointment.
• Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate physics courses.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research and developing labs.
• Ability to pursue internal and external funding and collaborate with UVU faculty.

Responsibilities

• Teach twelve credit hours per semester across PHYS/ASTRO courses.
• Deliver student-centered instruction with prepared lectures and demonstrations.
• Use university-approved tools for course management and assessment.
• Plan, implement, and assess learning activities; maintain records of student performance.
• Hold regular office hours, mentor student researchers, and respond to communications.
• Develop and maintain an active undergraduate research program with student participation and conference/publication outcomes.
• Pursue professional development via workshops and conferences; participate in service and committees.
