Job summary

Metric Geo seeks an experimental AMO physicist to design, build, and operate quantum platforms for qubit control and readout. You’ll work hands-on with optical/cryogenic systems and data acquisition to push scalable quantum technologies on site in the United States.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in AMO/Physics by January and strong data analysis plus Python automation skills for experiment control.

I'm looking to hire an Experimental AMO Physicist for a full-stack Quantum Computing Start up Company with over $130 million dollars in funding. You will play a key role in building and operating cutting‑edge experimental platforms for qubit control, measurement, and scaling. The ideal candidate enjoys hands‑on work, creative problem‑solving, and collaborating across disciplines to make new quantum technologies a reality. Please note this role is a fully onsite position.

What You'll Work On

• Design, construct, and characterize precision optical and/or cryogenic systems for quantum experiments.
• Understand and implement protocols for qubit preparation, control, and readout.
• Integrate control electronics, laser or rf and microwave systems, and data acquisition.
• Analyze experimental results and optimize system performance.
• Cross-team collaboration to guide system design and development.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with ultracold/Rydberg atoms.
• First‑hand experience with optical tweezers.
• Experience building a laser or vacuum system from scratch.
• Familiarity with qubit control, spectroscopy, or precision measurement techniques.
• Strong background in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific problem solving.
• Experience with Python or similar tools for experiment automation.

Requirements

• PhD in AMO Physics / Physics (or any other relevant area). Please note that this role is looking to hire immediately, so PhDs must be completed by January at the latest to be considered.
• You MUST already be located and living within the United States.
