Summary
This is an "Intermittent" position for a Vascular Surgeon to provide comprehensive care to patients. Hours worked depend on the facility's needs to cover for providers unable to work their scheduled hours. This is an open-continuous announcement that remains open until filled. Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
- Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent medical degree from an accredited school.
- Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Residency: Completion of an approved residency in a VA-recognized core specialty leading to board eligibility.
- (Note: VA physicians involved in academic training may need to be board certified for faculty status.)
- Residency Accreditation: Approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent recognized program with appropriate patient care exposure.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- PRPs are not independent practitioners and do not have privileges; they perform certain duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Vascular Surgery.

- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform open and endovascular procedures, including standing, bending, reaching, and wearing protective gear.
Duties
- Scope: Review and provide consultations promptly; see new outpatients within 30 days; manage inpatient consultations and urgent cases.
- Patient Transfer: Evaluate and respond promptly with referring providers and transfer coordinators.
- Outpatient Care: Assess patients in Vascular Surgery clinics, including post-op care.
- Collaborate with wound therapy nurses in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Interpret diagnostic studies promptly.
- Manage inpatient care in OR, ICU, and wards.
- Arrange follow-up appointments prior to discharge.
- Participate in morbidity and mortality conferences and provide death summaries.
- Document outpatient and inpatient progress, histories, physicals, and operative reports.
- Follow standard care policies, including operative site marking, preoperative briefings, and Time-Outs.
- Communicate with patients' families about their condition and surgery outcomes.
- Understand and address the needs of older patients, respecting age, developmental, and cultural factors.
