Job description

Summary

This is an "Intermittent" position for a Vascular Surgeon to provide comprehensive care to patients. Hours worked depend on the facility's needs to cover for providers unable to work their scheduled hours. This is an open-continuous announcement that remains open until filled. Applications are reviewed in order received and forwarded to the hiring manager for consideration.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent medical degree from an accredited school.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Residency: Completion of an approved residency in a VA-recognized core specialty leading to board eligibility.
  • (Note: VA physicians involved in academic training may need to be board certified for faculty status.)
  • Residency Accreditation: Approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent recognized program with appropriate patient care exposure.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • PRPs are not independent practitioners and do not have privileges; they perform certain duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: Vascular Surgery.
  • Reference: VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Appendix G-2.
