Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval awards up to $200,000, with an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience includes Urologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Robotic Surgery.
  • Must meet physical standards, including a prior physical exam, ability to lift 15-44 pounds, reach above shoulder, use fingers and both hands, walk and stand for 3-5 hours, kneel, and have good depth perception and color discrimination. Hearing aids are permitted.
Duties

We are seeking a skilled Urologist for our Surgical Care team at the Richmond VA Medical Center, VA. The incumbent will provide outpatient healthcare services, develop partnerships with patients, and practice within a team-based, community-aligned, person-centered model aimed at better health outcomes, improved care, and reduced costs.

The role involves managing a general urology surgery program, including clinical, administrative, academic, and research activities if applicable. Responsibilities include managing patient workload, coordinating care with VA tertiary facilities and VA-DoD sharing partners, and participating in VA-approved research studies. Some night and weekend call duty is required.
