Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensure requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Existing VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements
  1. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
  2. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  3. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  4. Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited core specialty.
  5. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  6. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  7. Preferred: Board certification or eligibility in Urologic Surgery.
  8. Physical and mental capacity to perform duties including examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and education.
Duties

At VA Phoenix Health Care System, our team provides comprehensive care guided by Veterans' needs. The role includes performing outpatient and inpatient Urologic surgeries, consulting, supervising students and residents, participating in quality improvement, and emergency procedures. The physician will also educate patients, document care thoroughly, participate in night call, and maintain clinical privileges and licensure. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm.
