Job description

Job Summary

To plan, implement and evaluate the provision of high-quality medical care, with appropriate resource management, to children and adolescents in the respective clinical area.

The Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has an opening for a Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis physician. This position will ultimately report clinically to the Chief of Pathology and serve as a critical member of laboratory leadership in our large pediatric healthcare system.

Successful candidates should demonstrate competency in transfusion medicine and apheresis, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to engage effectively with transfusion medicine specialists, department members, technical staff, and caregivers. The ability to lead or support research in transfusion medicine and to pursue academic and teaching opportunities is also important.

Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. board certification in Clinical Pathology or a clinical discipline related to pediatric medicine
  • Board certification or eligibility in Transfusion Medicine
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Georgia
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the respective clinical area
Certification Summary
  • Board Certified / Board Eligible in Transfusion Medicine
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • BLS or PALS certification required
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and as a team member
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff
  • Strong skills in personal organization, time management, human relations, teamwork, adaptability, motivation, and listening
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care within the clinical area in compliance with Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and Children’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in and incorporate Quality Improvement and research findings into practice
  • Serve as a resource for patient, family, and staff education
  • Educate and assist trainees with medical decision making
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all physician services rendered
  • Complete necessary documentation and ensure timely communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement
  • Actively respond to patient and clinical staff questions and requests
  • Participate in meetings and activities to support the operations of the clinical area
  • Engage in activities that enhance professional development, maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS, and keep any additional specialty training/certifications up to date
  • Perform other responsibilities as required
