Position: Physician Specialty Coder

The Physician Specialty Coder will be responsible for:

  1. Performing ICD-10 review and complex CPT Coding Validation or ASA coding for assigned surgical specialty departments.
  2. Establishing and maintaining working relationships with physicians to communicate and resolve specific case issues, as well as general questions and coding principles.
  3. Developing and maintaining professional skills by participating in professional organizations and staying updated on relevant literature and resources.
  4. Remaining current on coding and reimbursement rules, including regulatory and compliance issues related to coding, documentation, and billing trends.
  5. Serving as a resource for the Shared Service Center, providing assistance with complex billing/coding systems and payment issues.
  6. Providing instruction and education to coworkers on accurate charge entry and medical record documentation.
  7. Maintaining credentials and certifications, such as CPC, on an annual basis.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
  • At least 4 years of physician coding experience, with 2 years in a surgical or multi-specialty focus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, ASA classification systems, and regulatory requirements related to surgical specialties.
  • Advanced knowledge of CCI, LCD, CMS PRVU, and payer-editing systems such as McKesson.
  • Computer literacy with experience in billing systems and healthcare data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • This is a full remote position, except for candidates in California.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
