Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health seeks a Physical Specialist, Option B, at Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center in Springfield, IL, to serve as the primary care physician on a secure forensic unit, providing medical care, consultation, and participating in medical staff committees.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as primary care physician on a secure forensic unit.
  • Provide consultation to psychiatrists.
  • Participate in medical staff committees.
  • Evaluate and treat injured employees.
  • Complete mandatory training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
  • American Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience evaluating medical care for individuals with mental illness.
  • Experience coordinating medical services and conducting physical exams.
  • Experience in treatment planning, effective communication, and medical record keeping.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
  • DEA Certificate of Registration.
  • Ability to join the medical staff at Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center within 30 days.
  • Ability to travel, stand, walk, and participate in patient management interventions.
  • Maintain BLS certification and ability to testify in court.
  • Serve as Medical Officer of the Day as needed.
  • Pass background check and drug screen.
