$230,000.00/yr - $260,000.00/yr
Job Summary
The Psychiatrist position is located in the Mental Health Service at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. This role supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence. The Psychiatrist collaborates as a team member with staff.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs psychiatric evaluations for diverse populations, including geriatric and post-deployment combat Veterans, addressing psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and family support.
- Provides therapeutic interventions including assessments, medication management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and psychiatric care.
- Ensures practice compliance with TJC, CARF, HIPAA, VA policies, clinical guidelines, statutes, and regulations, along with documentation and continuing education.
- Offers psycho-diagnostic services and appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques.
- May serve as a mental health team leader, coordinating consults and referrals.
- Orders diagnostic tests, interprets findings, and makes treatment decisions.
- Participates in supervision, teaching, on-call duties, and other related responsibilities.

Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens isn't feasible.
- Full, unrestricted medical license in the US.
- Completion of accredited residency training leading to board eligibility or certification in psychiatry.
- Proficiency in English.
- Additional conditions include background checks, drug screening, and compliance with vaccination policies.
Qualifications
- Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved school.
- Residency in an approved program.
- Proficiency in English.
- Preferred: Experience in PTSD, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Education
- MD or osteopathic degree from an accredited institution.
- Verification of foreign medical graduates through ECFMG if applicable.
