Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on a fee or intermittent basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and may perform restricted duties under supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Additional requirements include a Selective Placement Factor and physical and environmental requirements as specified

Duties

• Provide mental health care, including history, physical, mental status exams, diagnostics, and treatment for veterans aged 18 and older
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide education to patients and families
• Order and interpret laboratory and radiologic tests, provide consultation, and make referrals
• Manage outpatient and inpatient care, including psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy
• Complete clinical documentation, participate in educational activities, and maintain credentials
• Participate in tele-psychiatry and on-call duties, perform peer reviews, and complete assessments as assigned
• Support the facility's educational mission through lectures, supervision, and administrative support
• Maintain privileges at the Boise VA Medical Center and participate in VA's total rewards program
