Summary

The Birmingham VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Physician who will serve as a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Primary Care Provider for Primary Care service. This position is located at the Rainbow City VA Clinic.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Physical requirements include moderate lifting, light carrying, walking, standing, hearing ability, and mental/physical stability.

Duties

• Provide primary care and specialty health services, including mental health, at the Rainbow City VA Clinic.
• Work closely with patients to plan for their health care needs, including immunizations and vaccinations.
• Collaborate with family members or caregivers supporting the patient.
• Participate in the VA's total rewards program, including recruitment incentives and education debt reduction programs.
• Serve as a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Primary Care Provider, assessing physical and psychosocial health, promoting preventive health, and managing acute and chronic conditions.
• Perform comprehensive assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, and patient education.
• Work schedule is typically Monday-Friday, with some evenings or weekends as needed, and telework options available on an ad-hoc basis.
