Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval can provide an award amount up to $200,000, with an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency programs include ACGME, AOA, or other approved programs with sufficient practice experience.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only serve on a fee basis, under supervision, and are not considered independent practitioners.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal or Family Medicine.
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform physical activities and work in potentially infectious or stressful environments.
Duties
  • Provide assessment and care for patients with various medical problems via face-to-face, telehealth, or video visits.
  • Order diagnostics, consultations, medications, and therapies; meet preventive health needs; document in VA systems.
  • Support telehealth and video visits from designated VA sites.
  • Perform evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments, including some procedures like joint injections, women's health exams, wound care, and more.
  • Supervise residents, fellows, and trainees.
