Job description

Summary

A recruitment/relocation incentive may be offered to highly qualified candidate(s). The incumbents will serve as a Primary Care Physician located within the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS) assigned to the Ambulatory Care Service. Assignments to other facilities within OVAHCS and travel to the site may be required to meet the needs of the service. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Duties
  • Full‑time Family Practice or Internal Medicine trained Physicians are sought to join our Primary Care Clinic Team as a Primary Care Provider.
  • Provide comprehensive medical care under the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model to a panel of patients managed under PCMM guidelines.
  • Be attentive to patient education, preventive care, and work well in an interdisciplinary team to provide high‑quality primary care.
  • Manage chronic conditions; evaluate and treat intercurrent medical conditions.
  • Determine medical assessment and develop treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
  • Collaborate with PACT to provide accessible, comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous care to an assigned panel of patients.
  • Act as a Women’s Health Primary Care Provider, providing age‑appropriate cervical and breast cancer screening, menopause and contraceptive management, and initial evaluation of basic gynecological concerns.
  • Perform disease‑prevention activities including sex‑ and age‑specific screenings, mental health screenings, and health‑promotion activities.
  • Screen for, evaluate, and treat uncomplicated common mental health disorders, including depression and common addictions, with referrals to mental health providers as appropriate.
  • Provide Buprenorphine treatment in the management of Opioid Use Disorder per DEA guidance.
  • Supervise or collaborate with primary‑care mid‑level providers.
  • Provide clinical oversight and participate in peer review of other primary‑care providers through periodic chart reviews.
  • Act as surrogate for absent primary‑care providers when needed, including review of CPRS view alerts.
  • Regularly attend primary‑care staff meetings, departmental meetings, and medical staff meetings.
  • Maintain timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) in accordance with facility policy and ensure all administrative work is completed promptly.
  • Address clinical reminders as medically appropriate and meet quality‑of‑care standards.
  • Utilize all virtual‑care modalities.
  • Provide timely follow‑up on results, including completion of view alerts.
  • Prescribe medication according to the approved formulary and in accordance with federal and state law.
  • Consult other specialties as appropriate according to service agreements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to clinic demands and adhere to professional obligations, ethical standards, and maintain a harmonious, customer‑service oriented environment.
  • Cover unassigned/unscheduled patients or clinic when a provider is on leave or when there is a provider vacancy, as an urgent need.
  • Assignments may include management of specialty PACTs such as Women’s Health PACT, SCI PACT, OEF/OIF PACT, Homeless or Geri PACT.
  • Travel to other sites within the Health Care System to cover provider shortages.

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm (Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor; the incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
