This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria outlined by VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program's approval, including the award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria specified in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements does not disqualify applicants, but they cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are considered qualified.
Basic Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
- Doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine degree from an approved institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
- Completed residency training in an accredited program approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred: At least 12 months of experience in outpatient primary or urgent care settings or similar clinical experience.
- Physical requirements include frequent movements such as reaching, standing, walking, and lifting, along with physical endurance to perform patient care duties.
Duties
- Lead a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide primary care to veterans.
- Assess physical and psychosocial health status, promote preventive care, and manage acute and chronic conditions.
- Provide comprehensive assessments, including health history, physical exams, and patient education.
- Establish diagnoses, initiate emergency responses, and coordinate referrals and diagnostic evaluations.
- Document care and treatment plans accurately using the electronic health record system (CPRS).
- Respond to diagnostic alerts and patient inquiries promptly, adhering to performance and access standards.
- Follow VA policies on medication management, clinical reminders, and customer service.
- Participate in the VA's total rewards program, including education debt reduction, competitive salary, paid time off, retirement benefits, insurance options, and CME reimbursement.
- This position generally follows a Monday through Friday schedule, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
