Job description

Summary

Under the direct administrative supervision of the Physical Medicine and Rehab Section Chief, the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center is currently recruiting for a full-time Staff Physiatrist.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Experience: Inpatient Rehabilitation, Stroke Rehab, Cardiac Rehab, Pulmonary Rehab, MSK, EMG/NCV, TBI, SCI, Amputee, Orthopedic. Board Certification preferred. Additional fellowship or certifications are desirable.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform all activities without restrictions. May involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and climbing stairs. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Duties
  • Provide clinical services within the PM&R scope, including diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Utilize non-surgical treatment methods and perform injections such as joint, epidural, facet, or ultrasound/EMG guided injections
  • Assist in interdisciplinary rehabilitation planning for veterans with various disabilities
  • Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
