Summary
This position is located at various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Pediatrics.

Duties

  1. Responsible for practicing medicine or providing direct services to patients, including diagnostic, preventive, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  2. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  3. Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patient conditions.
  4. Collect, record, and maintain patient information such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Monitor patient progress and re-evaluate treatment as necessary.
  5. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  6. Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other health professionals in providing health services.

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Must not have committed certain disqualifying crimes due to position requirements

  • Immunization compliance with IHS Circular 2016-04 or exemption request needed
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff privileges and licensure
  • On-call or standby duties may be required
  • Must pass E-Verify and background checks

Qualifications

Experience and/or education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties. Volunteer and part-time experience are credited. A detailed resume should clearly list duties and hours.

Basic Requirements include:

  • Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school
  • Foreign Medical Degree: Must demonstrate equivalency through certification or exams
  • Licensure: Valid, unrestricted medical license from U.S. or territories
  • Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree

Minimum Qualification for GS-15: 5 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Pediatrics.

Note: Applicants completing training within 9 months may submit a letter confirming expected completion date.

Selective Factor: Must be Board Certified or equivalent in the specialty, or actively pursuing certification. Verification required.

Education: Unofficial transcripts encouraged with application; official transcripts required upon hire.
