Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Perform problem-focused, individualized medical assessments.
- Be physically on-site at assigned correctional facility(s) on a regular basis.
- Document dates and times of site coverage by logging hours into the online payroll system.
- Provide 24/7 on-call phone services.
- Provide backup call for other facilities as needed.
- Personally examine patients as needed, staying on-site until all patients are seen.
- Prescribe medication (including narcotics) and treatment within your professional medical judgement, considering factors like adverse reactions, interactions, substance abuse issues, mental health, allergies, pain, vital signs, contraindications, and drug monitoring. Prescribe for appropriate durations.
- Review patient medical records as appropriate.
- Sign off on orders, as appropriate.
- Comply with correctional facility policies and procedures unless they conflict with common sense.
- If off-site care is more appropriate, coordinate with medical staff to send the patient or make appointments, understanding this can be overruled by the Sheriff/Jailer.
- Attend at least one ACH medical conference per year.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid medical license (MD, DO, NP, PA) in the state of service.
- Current Board Certification.
- Current DEA registration.
- Current collaborative agreement if required by state.
- Experience in primary care, corrections, or managed healthcare delivery.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training.
