Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
  • Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Additional requirement: Board Certified or Board Eligible Otolaryngologist. More info at https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS protocols. Long periods of standing, walking, and patient handling may be required. Exposure to infectious materials and potentially combative patients is possible.
Duties
  • This is an open continuous announcement until July 14, 2025, with initial application review cut-off on May 19, 2025, and subsequent 5-day intervals.
  • Eligible applications received after the initial cut-off will be considered as vacancies arise.
