Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who initially met the qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • License: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S. or D.C.
  • Residency Training: Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Additional details about residency and eligibility are included.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred experience includes completion of an approved fellowship in Glaucoma, Board certification or eligibility, and proficiency in diagnosing and treating glaucoma and performing related surgeries. Physical Requirements

This position may require long periods of light lifting, carrying under 15 pounds, use of fingers, walking and standing for 4 hours, near and far vision correction, color discrimination, and distinguishing shades.

Duties
  • This is an open continuous announcement until December 31, 2025, or until filled.
