Qualifications

Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensure may be acceptable temporarily. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
  • Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved school
  • Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by VA or equivalent
  • For residents: enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs or equivalent
  • Proficiency in English
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible ophthalmologist, with emphasis on MIGS implants or Glaucoma Fellowship training
  • Physical requirements: visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS protocols
Duties
  • This is an open continuous announcement until July 7, 2025, with initial review cut-off on May 12, 2025, and subsequent bi-weekly reviews
  • Provides comprehensive ophthalmology care, including cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy laser therapy, glaucoma treatment, and macular degeneration injections
  • Direct patient care activities: history, physicals, medication management, diagnostics, surgery, clinical documentation
  • Administrative responsibilities: electronic medical record documentation, quality assurance, committee participation, clinic management
  • Educational duties: instructing ophthalmology residents
