Job summary

Sanford Health in Iron Mountain, Michigan seeks a BC/BE OB/GYN physician to join an established team of three physicians and two APPs. The role involves comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care, with opportunities in education and research.

The candidate should have an MD or DO, be board-certified or eligible, and demonstrate substantial obstetric/gynecologic experience including deliveries and surgeries. A strong credentialing process applies.

Qualifications

• MD or DO required; board-eligible or board-certified in OB/GYN.
• Completion of an ACGME/AOA accredited residency in OB/GYN.
• Board certification in ABMS/AOA or Royal College; residency graduates eligible within five years.
• Must demonstrate competence with 50 deliveries (incl. 5 cesarean sections) and 25 gynecologic procedures in last 12 months.
• Residency logs OR quality profile from current privileges necessary as applicable.
• Privileging documents and credentialing requirements will define minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform history and physical exams, admit (if applicable), evaluate, diagnose, consult and provide pre-/intra-/postoperative care for female patients.
• Manage obstetric and gynecologic cases including surgical and non-surgical interventions.
• Engage in medical education and research as part of the department initiatives.

Job Description

Gynecologic Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit (if applicable to the setting), evaluate, diagnose, consult and provide pre-, intra- and postoperative care necessary to correct or treat female patients of all ages presenting with injuries and disorders of the female reproductive system and the genitourinary system and nonsurgical treatment disorders and injuries of the mammary glands.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested:

• An applicant who has just completed residency shall provide their residency procedure log and a list of completed rotations, as applicable.
• OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate competence and adequate volumes of experience to include 50 deliveries (including 5 cesarean sections) and 25 gynecological surgical procedures (if applicable to privileges requested) in the last 12 months.

Successful completion of an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.

Training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above, may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy.

Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.

Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entity’s policy for grandfather exceptions)

Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
