Job description

Summary

The Tampa VA Healthcare System's Neurology Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Neurologist (Vascular). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US or its territories.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency in Neurology leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in approved residencies may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Certification: Not generally required unless specified by VA policy or position requirements.
  • Preferred Experience: Fellowship in Vascular Neurology, leadership in stroke care, neurosonology interpretation, experience with neurocognitive disorders, GME and UME program leadership, research/publications.
  • Physical Requirements: Must pass a VA pre-employment physical, capable of moderate lifting, standing, and other physical activities as specified.
Duties
  • This is an open continuous announcement until filled; applications are accepted ongoing.
  • Eligible applicants will be referred weekly until a selection is made.
  • This position participates in the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential for varied shifts and on-call duties.
