Job summary

The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in the Charleston area is seeking a Neurology Physician to join the VA Health Care System.

The role supports comprehensive neurologic care for Veterans with a Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:30pm schedule and requires full-time commitment. Applicants must hold a full and unrestricted medical license in any US state or territory and are eligible for the VA Total Rewards program, EDRP options, and CME support.

Responsibilities

• Performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits.
• Evaluates, diagnoses and treats veterans with neurological conditions (stroke, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's, neuropathy, TBI).
• Enters progress notes in the electronic medical record and completes workload documentation.
• Provides medical care for acute and chronic conditions and preventive care for veterans.
• Orders diagnostic tests, medications and laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient.
• Provides timely follow-up on results and patient inquiries (view alerts, secure messages, etc.).
• Develops medical assessments and treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
• Prescribes medications according to formulary and laws.
• Educates patients on medical conditions, treatments, nutrition, smoking cessation and health screenings.
• Consults other specialties as appropriate.

Summary

The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, is the hub facility for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System, part of Veterans Integrated Service Network 2 (VISN 2). The system provides health care services at 8 locations, serving a 22-county area in South Carolina and Georgia, including the main medical center in Charleston and 7 community-based outpatient clinics located in Beaufort, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Hinesville, Myrtle Beach, Brunswick, and Savannah.

Duties

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Neurology Physicians - Duties include but are not limited to the following:

1. Performs and records history and physical examinations and records data from clinic visits.
2. Evaluates, diagnose, and treat Veterans with neurological conditions which may include stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, neuropathy, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
3. Enters progress notes in computerized medical record and completes workload documentation in a timely manner.
4. Provides medical care encompassing acute and chronic medical conditions and all appropriate preventive care for both male and female veterans.
5. Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests as medically relevant for each patient.
6. Provides timely follow-up on results and patient inquiries, including and not limited to completion of view alerts, secure messages and other patient communications.
7. Determines medical assessment and develops treatment plans according to accepted protocols.
8. Prescribes medications according to approved formulary, and in accordance with Federal and State Law.
9. Educates patients concerning medical conditions and recommended treatments. (Specific topics include but are not limited to nutritional counseling, need for smoking cessation, need for periodic immunizations and health screening tests, acute and chronic disease management and other preventive health measures).
10. Consults other specialties as appropriate, according to service agreements.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm (Subject to change based on applicant/agency needs)
